Ready, Set, Go?

The room fills in with light. The sun gently gleams onto your face. The alarm goes off. Okay, are we ready? Are we set? Are we a go? Sometimes, we say yes to all three. Most of the time, we say yes to the first two. And, then there are the days we say no to all three.

How do we know we are ready to start the day? How do we prepare if we are not set and ready to go? Let’s find some strategies to use on a good day, okay day and a bad day.

Today’s a good day!

You feel awesome in your outfit. Your favorite songs are playing. The weather is incredible. You have time to do the things you haven’t in a while. You are not in a rush. You are in a great mood.

On those days, write down how you are feeling. Write down what exercises, songs, food, colors, tv shows, etc. are putting you in a good mood. Post these in a place that you most frequent.

That way those strategies can be there on an okay or bad day. Also, try to give words of encouragement or lend a helping hand to others that could be having an okay or a bad day.

We feelin’ alright!

Another day. Another schedule. You are feeling okay, but feeling a bit tired at times. You are running late, you missed a deadline and forgot milk on the grocery list. But you know what? We are going to encourage ourselves.

Say to yourself “You are strong! You are enough! You got this! ” If you don’t feel it the first time, say it again “You are strong! You are enough! You got this!”

Next, place the phone away for a little while. Yes, tablets and ipads are included as well. Give social media a break. Go look at your good day list. Take that walk, call a friend, sip that tea, read that book or take that nap. Just focus on you. Then, you will be prepared to help others and take on other tasks.

Yup. It’s a bad day today.

Sometimes you wake up and you are not feeling the best mentally. You are just exhausted and drained. At times, this can happen mid-day or the end of the day. Whatever the time, it’s okay to have those days. Give yourself time to process how you are feeling. Have that quiet or prayer time. It’s time just for you.

Then, try to give yourself 10 minutes to stretch and drink water. It could help our muscles to relax and body to hydrate. Or you could try a breathing exercise to help you slow down and just focus on your breathing.

Next, glance at your good day list. Pick something that could help improve your current mood. It could be putting on your favorite color and listening to your favorite songs. It could be watching your favorite comfort show, taking a walk and soaking in the sun. These strategies could help shine some light on a bad day.

Ask yourself these 3 questions: Am I ready? Am I set? Am I ready to go?

If we are ready to take on the day, great! If not, that is okay. You are NOT alone. We can find the tools to help us get through the day.
