My Gardening Journey Part 2

So this all started when I decided to grow lavender from a seed. Before I found my two lovely English lavenders at the plant nursery, I decided to start with some lavender seeds to grow inside. All ready to go, I planted the seeds. I gently watered them daily and anxiously waited for them to sprout.

Fast forward two weeks, two seeds decided to sprout. I was so happy that at least two of the ten were able to sprout. When the sprouts🌱 were growing to about an inch and a half, I decided it was time for them to join the great outdoors. Unfortunately, the great outdoors were too happy to meet them the strong gusts of wind and a wide range of temperatures.

Meanwhile, my peppermint was struggling too. While tending to the lavender sprouts and the other plants, I forgot to water the peppermint as much as I needed too. And when those temperatures rose above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, you can guess what came next. It was wilting. WILTING.

By then, I had reached my Nemo point 😂. You know that scene in Finding Nemo where Marlin says to Nemo “You think you can do these things, but you can’t Nemo”. Yup. I was definitely Nemo. I thought I could do everything at once. I thought I could do everything on my own.

My lavender sprouts and peppermint were struggling and so was I. But then I realized that, I couldn’t control these things. I can’t control how strong the wind will gust or the dramatic range of temperatures. I just can’t. But I can find small ways to overcome. I can start a schedule on when the peppermint needs watering and tending too. For the days and nights with extra strong wind gusts, I can bring the lavender sprouts in to readjust.

So when you are at your Nemo point with gardening or just life in general, set aside some quiet time for yourself. Take deep breaths. Breathe in and out. Then say out-loud “I can’t do everything all at once”

Try setting a schedule to reduce anxiety. Pencil in your breaks. Call for help so that you aren’t spreading yourself too thin.

Stressing out can make us wilt, but knowing our limits can help us recover, grow and thrive once more.

Have you had a Nemo point(s)? Trying to do everything on your own? What steps are you going to take this week to put you first?

Also, if you are a new gardener, please feel free to let me know how are you doing? And if you have gardened before, any tips on how to overcome gardening obstacles?
